Nerve Damage - Going to see a doctor
So, today I have to go to the doctor. The reason I have to go is that last summer, I broke my arm skateboarding. It was a serious compound break. Bone out of the skin and everything. I went to the doctor and I got 2 plates and 12 screws out in there Anyways, when I broke it, I got severe nerve damage to my right hand. For almost a year now, I have had no feeling in my pointer finger, middle, half of my ring finger, and bottom of my thumb. It may seem like after a year of not having feeling, I would get used to it. I haven't. It is the weirdest feeling ever when you touch something and can't feel it. It is scary. One time, right after I recovered, I was cooking something in the microwave. When it was done, I picked it up, and carried it into my room like normal. I ate my food and was fine. About 20 minutes later my friend came and picked me up. We were driving down the road, and I looked at my finger and freaked out. There was a HUGE blister on the top of my pointer finger. I screamed at him and asked him what it was. He was so amazed, especially that I didn't notice it before. I finally realized that when I carried my food from the microwave, it was extremely hot, but I couldn't tell, so I just let it burn me. What happened next might seem kinda gross. I went to a gas station, and I bought some band-aids and neosoporin. I went back to my friend's car, found something sharp, and popped it. I have to admit, being able to pop a huge blister and it not hurting was pretty amazing. I cleaned up all the stuff that came out, disinfected it, and put a band aid on it. That is just one of the many times my fingers have been hurt since this happened to me. But that might all change today. I am going to a nerve specialist and he is going to see if there is any surgery that can be done to repair my nerves. I am so excited. I have felt disabled for so long. I might actually be normal again soon. I can't wait. |
